Committees

Membership

The Membership Committee manages the new member process and is responsible for recruiting candidates, interviewing applicants and recommending a membership class each year. The Membership Committee also maintains the organization’s roster, tracks member participation at Torchbearers events, and provides support to the Treasurer.

The Membership Committee currently meets once a month in the evening. If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact Craig Horbus at 330-665-5117 x105 or csh@witscheylaw.com

Service

The Service Committee acts as a bridge between non-profit agencies looking for assistance and Torchbearer members interested in giving their time and talent to a local cause. The committee evaluates requests from agencies and determines if Torchbearers are able to provide the support and skills necessary to be of assistance. In addition to coordinating Torchbearer involvement with a non- profit event, the committee is continuously reaching out to find new opportunities to be leaders in the community. The Community Leadership Project asks local non-profits to submit proposals requesting help with strategic planning, fundraising, accounting, legal, and other areas of professional expertise. The work is done pro-bono and offers Torchbearers the opportunity to share their unique skills outside of the more traditional volunteer setting. The Service Committee also facilitates the Board Shadowing Program, which pairs Torchbearers with local non-profit Boards for a one year shadowing period. During this time they act as a full member of the Board and are involved with all communications and meetings, but do not have voting rights.

Examples of some Torchbearer volunteer opportunities include:

Events include the Annual Anniversary Party with senior leaders, quarterly Morning Connections, Annual AkRun & Crawl fundraiser, a spring time cultural event and summer social event.

The committee is responsible for the programming and planning of the TB College Curriculum in which all new members are required to complete.
